Hum Tum is a Bollywood movie, released in India on May 28, 2004, directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. The movie stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles.

Hum Tum (translates as You and Me or literally as Me, You) is loosely based on When Harry Met Sally... following the encounters of the two main characters until they, after several years and various meetings, become friends and finally fall in love at the end of the movie.

The comic characters Hum and Tum have their own animated sequences in the movie, where they represent the current state of Karan's and Rhea's relationship.

The film won several Filmfare Awards including Best Actress (Mukerji), Director (Kohli), Actor in a Comic Role (Khan), Female Playback Singer (Alka Yagnik for "Saanso Ko Saanso") and Scene of the Year. It lost Best Film to Yash Chopra's Veer-Zaara. Animation for this film was done by Kathaa Animations and the Special Effects by Tata Elxsi[1]. Saif Ali Khan also won the National Film Award for Best Actor in June of 2005.

Synopsis

Karan (Saif Ali Khan) is a cartoonist and a self-styled ladies' man. His daily comic, "Hum Tum," explores the battle of the sexes. On a plane from Delhi to New York, he meets Rhea (Rani Mukerji), but she doesn't seem the least bit interested in him. His feeble attempts at flirting go nowhere, but when they have a stopover in Amsterdam, she agrees to spend a few hours exploring the city with him. Karan quickly learns he has little in common with the feisty but proper Rhea, but he won't give up. He ends their contentious time together with an unwelcome kiss. Rhea is outraged and storms off, but Karan insists they'll meet again. And months later in New York, he spots her in the park, and she causes a scene with his girlfriend, which ends in the break-up between Karan and his current girlfriend. Karan and Rhea don't see each other again

Now three years later, when Karan is helping his mother plan a wedding that turns out to be Rhea's. Rhea is marrying Sameer (Abhishek Bachchan). They bicker again, but this time, they part on good terms. Years later in Paris, Karan is visiting his father (Rishi Kapoor), when he runs into Rhea again. He learns from Rhea's mother (Kiron Kher) that Sameer has died in a car crash, and he sets out to help her reclaim her positive outlook on life. Sensing that she needs to be with a straight-laced, "boring guy", he conspires with Rhea's mother to fix her up with his shy best friend, Mihir (Jimmy Shergill). Things don't go as planned, and Karan and Rhea find themselves forced to confront their feelings for each other. They spend a night together (though in Indian releases, this scene was cut) and, suspecting they have ruined their relationship forever, Karan leaves Rhea, but later realizes his mistake and tries to find her, but she has disappeared.

He writes his book about Hum and Tum; essentially, the story is his and Rhea's. She comes back to him after having read the book and finally, he confesses his love for her and they get married and have a baby girl.

Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak is a Bollywood film starring Vivek Oberoi, Ayesha Takia, Mahima Chaudhary, and Boman Irani in the lead roles. It is written and directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Shabbir Boxwalla.

Synopsis

Home Delivery is the story of how it takes just a single day to change a person's outlook on life forever. Sunny Malhotra (Vivek Oberoi) is a 28 year old writer who has carved a name for himself as a popular agony uncle, named Gyan Guru, writing for the Times of Hindustan. Sunny also managed to bag a prestigious screenplay writing project for the most happening film director, Karan Johar. A bit of a cynic, he believes he is a self-made man and that whatever he has achieved in life is due to his own hard work and nobody else's. His cynicism is extended to his views about marriage to his fiance Jenny (Ayesha Takia) and to the festival of Diwali too.

Just as Sunny is cynical about life, Michael Burnett (Boman Irani) is optimistic about it. 51 year old Michael is a simple minded man, almost childlike and has recently landed job as a pizza delivery boy at Mummy's Pizza. Michael has sort of an inclination to lose every job he has ever had in 2 days flat. This time, however, he vows to keep this one no matter what.

On the eve of Diwali, Sunny has loads of stuff to do and very little time to do it. He has to meet his screenplay deadline, he has to get rid of Pandey (Saurabh Shukla) his irritatingly intrusive next door neighbor and he's got to avoid his editor's telephone calls who is livid that he's bunking work. But more importantly he needs to get Jenny out of the way because he has a date with Maya (Mahima Chaudhary), a South Indian superstar who he has been in love with since as long as he can remember. In this confusion, Sunny forgets that there is no food in his bachelor pad and orders a pizza that Michael is given the task of delivering. And what Michael delivers to Sunny is so much more than just a pizza. Sunny is home delivered life's simple lessons right to his doorstep.

Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai is a 2006 Indian romantic musical film directed by Bunty Soorma and starring Bobby Deol, Amisha Patel, and Arjun Rampal. The film's premise revolves around a blind woman who struggles to come to terms with her first love, who has apparently been killed, and a new love who wants to help her move on with her life.

Plot

Durga (Amisha Patel) is a beautiful blind woman with a talent for shaping pottery. She is poor, and lives with her widowed mother in a simple home. By chance Durga crosses paths with Babu Rohit (Arjun Rampal) who saves her life when she is about the fall over a cliff. The pair spend time together and fall in love. At one point Durga creates a clay bust of her Babu ("sir") but weeps because she cannot see it. Rohit tells her that he will find a way to help her see again.

When Durga's mother is killed due to the actions of another suitor who wants Durga, Rohit comforts Durga for loss and promises to marry her so that he can take care of her. He then takes her to a hospital where she will have surgery to regain her sight. While she is recovering (prior to bandages being removed) Rohit leaves the hospital to prepare their new home. The jealous suitor steps in and apparently kills Rohit.

Upon receiving the news, Durga sinks into depression. Dr. Prasad, who performed the eye surgery, takes her in as his own adopted daughter, as she has no other family to care for her. As part of his plan to help her recover, he takes her to Switzerland to live. There she meets Raj (Bobby Deol), who falls in love with Durga at first sight. He, too, is grieving a dead friend and recognizes that loneliness in Durga. Through persistence and kindness, Durga finally agrees to let her first love go and accepts Raj's proposal of marriage. Unknown to both, Durga's first love and Raj's dead friend are the same man, but as Durga had previously been blind, she does not recognize Rohit's photograph when Raj shows it to her.

On the day of their engagement, Raj is told that Rohit is alive and in a reclusive Red Crescent hospital, where he has been in a coma for many months. Raj embraces his friend, believing that this discovery will make his happiness complete. Raj brings Rohit back to his house in time for the engagement celebration. Rohit is shocked to discover that Raj's fiancee is Durga, but does not reveal this connection to anyone.

Raj "introduces" Rohit to Durga formally, and Rohit merely salaams, but does not say anything. But then by chance Durga overhears him speak and immediately recognizes the voice. Later Durga confronts him, wanting to be sure whether Rohit is her Babu or not. Rohit denies it repeatedly, but Durga is still not convinced. She calls Dr. Prasad, as he had met Rohit before Durga underwent surgery. The doctor tells her that Rohit is not her Babu, but as it turns out the doctor was following Rohit's instructions to lie to Durga of his identity. Durga finally accepts it and does not question Rohit anymore.

One night, when the lights go out in Raj's home, Durga and Rohit accidentally bump into each other. In the dark, Durga's hand goes up to feel Rohit's face, which she feels is familiar. Rohit flees, and in her anguish Durga decides to use her memory of the bust she'd made of her Babu long ago and re-create it again. Durga re-creates the clay bust blindfolded, and when she completes it, she looks at it and realizes that Rohit is her Babu. Rohit confronts her, asking her whether it would be the right thing to destroy Raj's happiness after all that has been through. Durga reluctantly agrees that she cannot leave Raj, and they both decide to keep the secret.

On the night before the wedding ceremony, Raj publicly confronts the pair, apparently in anger. He harshly accuses Rohit of trying to steal Durga away from him. Rohit quietly accepts the accusation and humiliation. However, Durga cannot remain silent and speaks up for her Babu, explaining the truth of their past. It is then revealed that Raj's "angry" behaviour was a ruse to make them reveal the truth. He gladly steps aside to reunite the lovers, sharing their happiness as his own.

Cast

  • Bobby Deol as Raj
  • Arjun Rampal as Rohit
  • Amisha Patel as Durga
  • Suhasini Mulay as Durga's mother
  • Parmeet Sethi as Rana
  • Kanwaljit Singh as Dr. R.K. Prasad

Review

With the influx of multiplexes in India, stories that were considered experimental at a point are slowly finding their way to the big screen. Pooja Bhatt picks up the essence from the Hollywood hit DIRTY DANCING [1987; Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze], garnishes the plot with a dance form [Salsa] and sets her story in the land of sand, sea and surf [Goa].

Ideal date movie? Not really HOLIDAY could've been one enjoyable joy ride. Instead, it turns out to be a bland experience thanks to an ineffectual plot and the sluggish pace at which the story unfolds.

Agreed, the dance form has rarely been witnessed on Indian screen and Bollywood aficionados would relish the two Salsa numbers. But barring a scene or two that linger in your memory, the story otherwise is too simplistic, the screenplay lacks ample dramatic moments to keep you hooked and the execution is quite basic.

Pooja's recent movies, JISM and PAAP mainly, had ample meat in the plot, but writer Mahesh Bhatt doesn't get it right this time around. In short, this 'Holiday' will be short-lived in public memory!

HOLIDAY begins with Dr. Daksh Suri [Gulshan Grover] arriving in Goa for a month-long vacation. Accompanying Dr. Suri is his wife Nandini [Anahita Uberoi] and their two daughters, Samara [Nauheed Cyrusi] and Muskaan [Onjolee Nair]. While Samara is an extrovert, Muskaan is exactly her opposite. She prefers to be in a shell.

Muskaan bumps into a group of dance professionals [Dino Morea, Alyssa/Kashmira Shah] who perform in the hotel. She also gets to know that Alyssa is pregnant and the guy responsible for it is the hotel owner's flirtatious kin [Sanjit Bedi], who has now befriended Samara.

Muskaan decides to step in as Alyssa's replacement when she resolves to go for an abortion. But Muskaan is completely clueless when it comes to dancing, more so about Salsa. Dino decides to train her and in the process not only do the two find comfort in each other's arms, but Muskaan also discovers her strengths.

HOLIDAY is not just DIRTY DANCING but also JASSI JAISI KOI NAHIN. If the basic plot has been borrowed from the Hollywood hit, the characterization of the female protagonist bears a striking semblance to the immensely popular TV serial, about a girl-next-door discovering self esteem and confidence.

Frankly, the subject matter had ample scope to emerge into an enthralling fare. But the film catches your attention in bits and spurts. The Kashmira Shah track as also the scenes when Onjolee decides to learn dancing, hold your interest. However, the best part of the film is the song prior to the intermission ['Tu Hain Bhatakta Jugnu Koi']. A brilliant composition, it is composed [Ranjit Barot], rendered [Shreya Ghoshal], choreographed [Sandeep Soparkar] and performed [Dino, Onjolee] with amazing precision.

But the excitement [on a minimal scale] generated in the first hour evaporates in the second hour. The film develops into one of those mundane love stories where lovers part ways only to re-unite in the climax. The script has a major flaw: Why doesn't Dino clear the misunderstanding when he meets Gulshan Grover? Why does he want Gulshan to feel that he's the culprit, when he's not? Let's face it, today's youth can be brutally frank when it comes to airing their views/feelings.

Also, in the climax, when Onjolee performs with Dino, it doesn't make you jump with joy primarily because the love story is treated so ordinarily that you don't empathize with the lovers. The finale track ['Aashiyaan'] is interesting again, but not much of a help either.

Pooja Bhatt's direction is not as convincing this time. The talented actor turned director made more impact in her directorial debut [PAAP] than in her second outing [HOLIDAY]. One of the reasons could be the lackluster screenplay, which tends to get boring at regular intervals.

Ranjit Barot offers a truly different sound and at least three numbers rise to the occasion: 'Tu Hain Bhatakta Jugnu Koi', 'Khwaishon Se' and 'Neele Neele'. Sandeep Soparkar's Salsa steps are sure to win tremendous acclaim. Cinematography [Anshuman Mahaley] is mesmerising. The beauty of Goa has been captured remarkably by the lensman.

If there's one person who'd stand to benefit from HOLIDAY, it's Dino Morea. Known as a good looker until now, Dino climbs a few steps as an actor with this film. Sincere and convincing, this is his finest work to date. Also, all those who felt that Dino is a guy with two left feet are sure to chew their words back.

Onjolee doesn't have the conventional Hindi film heroine looks. Even otherwise, she is plain ordinary when it comes to acting. But the one department she scores in is dances. Kashmira Shah is first-rate in a brief role. Nauheed Cyrusi is okay. Gulshan Grover is able. Anahita Uberoi is alright. Sanjit Bedi is proficient. Ankur Desai is adequate.

On the whole, HOLIDAY doesn't have much to fall back upon except for a soothing musical score. But music alone isn't enough. At the box-office, it's a non-starter!

Synopsis

Aditya (Akshay Kumar), an automobile engineer in a car company, is as passionate about cars as Shakespeare was about writing. Not only is he an engineer, but also a test driver for the company. A post like that can explain how well he could drive.

Aditya is engaged to Sonia (Bipasha Basu), a fashion designer about to make her mark in the field. As individuals, Aditya and Sonia were not on the same wavelength. Sonia was a 21st Century woman for whom career came first and she believed in changes. And as much as Aditya tried to overlook those facts, they kept coming in the way.

Though the marriage date is fixed, Aditya had to leave for Canada to learn about the technique of a new car model, to be launched in India; while Sonia had to leave for Paris for a fashion show.

Aditya arrives in Canada where his sister Simran (Bhagyashree) is living. He meets the family but cannot live with them as the company has given him an apartment close to the workshop. But he makes it a point to meet the family on weekends.

In between work, co-incidence or destiny makes him bump into Jia (Katrina Kaif) more than once. Jia, daughter of business tycoon Yashwardhan Birla, has come to Canada all alone to shop for her wedding with the business giant, Karan Oberoi (Anil Kapoor).

Jia was a simple girl with simple needs. She had got everything she could ask for in her childhood, but never time from her ever so busy father. And now the man her father had chosen for her hardly had any time to spend with her too. And that is when she found a friend in Aditya. Aditya and Jia manage to spend time with each other and as time passes, the friendship between them grows.

Being an amazing driver, Aditya gets a chance from his company to participate in a car rally. And somehow he persuades Jia to participate with him, and wins it too. On returning from the destination of the rally, their car gets stuck in the snow and they have to spend the night together. They share intimate moments, which make them forget that they were engaged, but not to each other.

With passing time, they fail to realize when they start falling in love with each other. But a misunderstanding with Aditya. Jia tells Aditya that she believes her father is responsibe for her mothers death. Aditya tells his best friend, Nawab, this, and Nawab on a drunkan night tells his friend, who is a reporter this. The reporter reports it in the morning papers. Jia, extreamly hurt, returns to India to marry Karan. Aditya also comes back to India to get married with Sonia and does not attempt to meet Jia ever again. But fate makes them meet for the last time – at Jia’s wedding.

Sonia is the designer at Jia's wedding, and she asks Aditya to bring the wedding dress for the bride, Jia. They meet, but don't say anything to each other. Mr Oberoi asks Aditya to come to the wedding, and Sonia manages to pursway him to come. Jia's friend and Karans secutary Jenny bumps into Nawab, who once again is drunk, and reveals that it is his fault that Jia's secret was published in the papers. But it is too late. Jia is already married to Karan. She goes to meet Aditya in order to tell him that she is sorry. They meet, confess their love and agree never to meet again. But Karan catches them talking and asks Jia what is happening. She says that she only loves Karan and that Aditya is just a good friend who is she feelings for. When Aditya is leaving the wedding, he finds a upside down car, in which Jia is. She has had a car accident. Petrol is leaking, and Aditya goes in the car to help Jia out. The car catches fire just as Aditya manages to free Jia. He helps her out of the car, while the press amd public have gathered around to see what is going on. Aditya accompanies Jia to Karan, telling him that Jia only belongs to him, no one else. Karan pulls Jia's mangal Sutra off, and tells her to marry Aditya, and the movie ends with both of them hugging.

Plot

The story is about six couples, who are on their honeymoon with the Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. bus and their trials and tribulations during the four-day-journey. The couples are:

  • Oscar Fernandez (Boman Irani) and his wife Nahid (Shabana Azmi) who have just recently married. They are middle-aged and the target of constant mocking from everyone else. However, they intend on having a great journey and not be bothered by their difficult pasts. This is their second marriage. Oscar's first wife committed suicide and Nahid's husband and 2 children died in a car accident. Oscar is Nahid's first husband's business partner. After a chance meeting with Oscar's estranged daughter in Goa, father and daughter mend their relationship.
  • Partho Sen (Kay Kay Menon) and Milly Sen (Raima Sen), a couple from a small town in Bengal.
  • Pinky (Amisha Patel) and Vicky (Karan Khanna), hailing from Delhi. They couldn't be more different, as Pinky is very extroverted and Vicky is the opposite. When Vicky sees Bunty for the first time, he develops feelings for him but isn't able to express them.
  • Madhu (Sandhya Mridul) and Bunty (Vikram Chatwal) have most recently married. Their differences draw from the fact that he is an NRI, a non-resident Indian, while she has lived in Mumbai, India, for her entire life. Bunty is a closet homosexual and his parents want him to marry the daughter of a family friend but out of anxiety he contacted Madhu over the net and came to India and married quickly. Madhu had a recently failed relationship with a man, whom she left after discovering that he had a wife and child already. She found Bunty and married quickly to forget that pain.
  • Hitesh (Ranvir Shorey) and Shilpa (Dia Mirza) are both from Gujarat and both of them wonder if love or marriage is more important. During the first half hour, Shilpa runs away with her love, Arjun Rampal. Shilpa and her love board the Honeymoon Travels bus returning to Mumbai, while escaping from contract killers sent by Hitesh's father.
  • Aspi (Abhay Deol) and Zara (Minissha Lamba) are seemingly the most perfect couple of them all. They've never fought with each other. Unknown to each other, each of them hide a secret (they are superheroes respectively in reality).

As the bus continues its journey, it is followed by a mysterious man, dressed in black clothes, wearing a helmet - someone who still has business with one of the passengers.
