Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai is a 2006 Indian romantic musical film directed by Bunty Soorma and starring Bobby Deol, Amisha Patel, and Arjun Rampal. The film's premise revolves around a blind woman who struggles to come to terms with her first love, who has apparently been killed, and a new love who wants to help her move on with her life.
Plot
Durga (Amisha Patel) is a beautiful blind woman with a talent for shaping pottery. She is poor, and lives with her widowed mother in a simple home. By chance Durga crosses paths with Babu Rohit (Arjun Rampal) who saves her life when she is about the fall over a cliff. The pair spend time together and fall in love. At one point Durga creates a clay bust of her Babu ("sir") but weeps because she cannot see it. Rohit tells her that he will find a way to help her see again.
When Durga's mother is killed due to the actions of another suitor who wants Durga, Rohit comforts Durga for loss and promises to marry her so that he can take care of her. He then takes her to a hospital where she will have surgery to regain her sight. While she is recovering (prior to bandages being removed) Rohit leaves the hospital to prepare their new home. The jealous suitor steps in and apparently kills Rohit.
Upon receiving the news, Durga sinks into depression. Dr. Prasad, who performed the eye surgery, takes her in as his own adopted daughter, as she has no other family to care for her. As part of his plan to help her recover, he takes her to Switzerland to live. There she meets Raj (Bobby Deol), who falls in love with Durga at first sight. He, too, is grieving a dead friend and recognizes that loneliness in Durga. Through persistence and kindness, Durga finally agrees to let her first love go and accepts Raj's proposal of marriage. Unknown to both, Durga's first love and Raj's dead friend are the same man, but as Durga had previously been blind, she does not recognize Rohit's photograph when Raj shows it to her.
On the day of their engagement, Raj is told that Rohit is alive and in a reclusive Red Crescent hospital, where he has been in a coma for many months. Raj embraces his friend, believing that this discovery will make his happiness complete. Raj brings Rohit back to his house in time for the engagement celebration. Rohit is shocked to discover that Raj's fiancee is Durga, but does not reveal this connection to anyone.
Raj "introduces" Rohit to Durga formally, and Rohit merely salaams, but does not say anything. But then by chance Durga overhears him speak and immediately recognizes the voice. Later Durga confronts him, wanting to be sure whether Rohit is her Babu or not. Rohit denies it repeatedly, but Durga is still not convinced. She calls Dr. Prasad, as he had met Rohit before Durga underwent surgery. The doctor tells her that Rohit is not her Babu, but as it turns out the doctor was following Rohit's instructions to lie to Durga of his identity. Durga finally accepts it and does not question Rohit anymore.
One night, when the lights go out in Raj's home, Durga and Rohit accidentally bump into each other. In the dark, Durga's hand goes up to feel Rohit's face, which she feels is familiar. Rohit flees, and in her anguish Durga decides to use her memory of the bust she'd made of her Babu long ago and re-create it again. Durga re-creates the clay bust blindfolded, and when she completes it, she looks at it and realizes that Rohit is her Babu. Rohit confronts her, asking her whether it would be the right thing to destroy Raj's happiness after all that has been through. Durga reluctantly agrees that she cannot leave Raj, and they both decide to keep the secret.
On the night before the wedding ceremony, Raj publicly confronts the pair, apparently in anger. He harshly accuses Rohit of trying to steal Durga away from him. Rohit quietly accepts the accusation and humiliation. However, Durga cannot remain silent and speaks up for her Babu, explaining the truth of their past. It is then revealed that Raj's "angry" behaviour was a ruse to make them reveal the truth. He gladly steps aside to reunite the lovers, sharing their happiness as his own.
