Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag opened to universally negative reviews from the press and the moviegoers. It is being considered a very insincere tribute to the original. It is unclear whether the movie is intended to be a remake or a parody of the original. Other reasons given for its poor reviews range from very poor chemistry between the new Jai and Veeru, poor editing, a very tepid romance track, attempts to create alternatives to the original's most famous dialogues and shoddy performances by Nisha Kothari and some other actors. However, Mohanlal has been been praised for his performance by most of the reviewers.
